Questionable Morals

Dear Mr. Green,

I certainly thought your idea of passing for Jewish and undergoing the experience of such oppression was interesting. However, I would question a few things about your choices. Firstly, is it ever ethical to undergo passing for those in a less privileged position? For if something ever truly becomes dangerous or life threatening, you are easily able to provide that you are not Jewish. For someone who has a Jewish surname, this is not so easy, and because you are not undergoing passing as an act of necessity but as an act of willful journalism, is it ever truly moral to act the way you did, even if it was for a good cause? I would also question the judgement of Kathy. Given her obvious implicit bias against Jews, is she ever truly acceptable? Inevitably, predispositions are not always the fault of those who possess them, as they can be built in by parents or other influential life figures. However, Kathy clearly has such antisemitic principles ingrained in her identity. Can she truly just wish them away after talking to one Jewish person? Additionally, your project was truly unable to even address other issues of race and gender. Surely, looking solely at antisemitism washes away other structural issues such as class, race, gender, and sexuality. Anyway, I look forward to hearing your response.

Thank you,
Vaughan Siker
