A Letter from Carlos Almazàn to his brother, 1920
A Letter from Carlos Almazàn to his brother, 1920
Dear Brother,
I thank you so much for urging me to go to the United States.
I write to you now from the train that brings me to Texas. To think that it would have been so difficult to move to America around 50 years ago without the railroads.
Your reasoning for me to move to the United States was very compelling. It should present me with many opportunities of work. I have been speaking with a man on the train who says that agriculture has expanded in America, and the need for labor workers, such as myself, has gone up. Of course, the turmoil at home is also a reason for me to migrate, as it previously left my business as a market vendor bankrupt. You were wise to advise me to move.
Always yours,
Carlos
